Smoothness of Dimming

Best performance is obtained with Trailing Edge dimmers (RMT500 or RAK4T). In this case lamps switch on smoothly from off and dim up & down without any noticeable problems. With two lamps on the same circuit it is possible to make them flash at startup by dimming them up very slowly to the point where they only just strike - this is a very slight issue that you have to be deliberately trying to do: Most users would not notice. With a Leading Edge dimmer (RML500) performance is not as good - bright flash of light at switch on and (to less extent) when dimming up & down. Wouldn't recommend using a Leading Edge dimmer.
